How to practise with the free app
Under every set of words is a button: “Practise these words”. It opens Spelling Champs with the set already filled in. You can change, add or remove any word, so it matches the real list from school. Then your child taps the speaker, hears the word, and types it.
The app marks the spelling the way a teacher does. Capitals count, and so do the marks on letters, like the little hat on ê in sê. If only a mark is wrong, your child sees “Amper! Kyk na die tekens” (“Almost! Check the marks”) instead of a plain cross. Words your child gets wrong come back until they stick.
Five minutes a day is enough
Short, regular practice works better than one long session the night before the test. Go through the whole list once when it comes home. After that, five minutes a day is plenty: the app brings back the words your child missed. It is free, and you don’t need to sign up.
Got this week’s list from school?
Type it in once. The app reads every word out loud and marks your child’s spelling. Free, no sign-up.
